Teaching digital awareness became vital with children spending time online at younger and younger ages. I would like to share some considerations while addressing Internet safety at primary school.
As a goal of my lessons on cyber safety, I set that by the
end of the session, children with and without additional and conceptual
difficulties, as well as mild and moderate learning, emotional and behavioural difficulties,
would be able to identify the potential risks that young children can come
across while using the internet and other communication tools. It was essential
that despite their young age, they would learn and understand the different
ways they and their parents could make sure they were safe when online or using
mobile phones (it was very important to make a parallel), as well as learning
some ruleswhich were designed to help keep children safe online in order to
avoid the risks and enjoy social media. They would look at the nature and
effects of cyber bullying, and consider the role of technology in our life.
Grouping students with a considerable amount of ability differences together represents a new quality trend in language learning called mixed-ability grouping. Nowadays groups and classes vary immensely and contain many levels of learners. Students who are placed in groups with mixed abilities benefit because they are grouped with other students who are not like themselves. This allows for the opportunity to learn about and accept differences. In academics, higher-level students can help to push lower-level students further by modeling and encouraging them.
